The 2022 Jeep Cherokee is an excellent compact SUV available for families, thanks to its off-road abilities, technological features, safety, and more. With a dizzying array of available configurations, it can be hard to decide which one is right for you. Below, I’ll outline the specifications and features of the Cherokee, as well as similarities and differences between two of the most commonly requested trims available: the Trailhawk and the Limited.
Standard Features
Every 2022 Cherokee comes with a large array of standard features. ZF’s reputed 9 speed automatic transmission comes on all trims, regardless of engine choice. Power is delivered to all four wheels, although there are a handful of 4WD systems available depending on the spec. LED lamps on the front and rear ensure optimal road visibility when the weather gets choppy. On the inside, quality cloth seats keep you comfy, with added heating capabilities and power adjustability in the front row. Speaking of comfort, dual zone climate is standard, even on base spec Cherokees.
The entry level Cherokee also punches above its weight in terms of technology. Thanks to Stellantis’ Uconnect infotainment system, coupled with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, stay connected wherever you go. That centre screen also displays the guided backup camera, making parking a breeze. Rear passengers will enjoy the swath of USB ports placed throughout the interior. Safety isn’t an afterthought in the Cherokee, with several front, side, curtain, and rear airbags fitted standard.
Trailhawk
In the Trailhawk spec, the Cherokee is a great fit for adventurers looking for rugged off-road abilities and all the safety and tech features that are to be expected in the compact SUV market of late.
The Trailhawk presents a more rugged exterior, courtesy of its raised suspension, tow hooks, and matte accents throughout the exterior. The upgraded Jeep Active Drive Lock 4×4 system is further proof of its capabilities, with additional torque at low speeds thanks to locking driveshafts when using 4WD-Lo mode. The underbody is lined with skid plates, to prevent damaging any critical components while tackling rough terrain. Hitting the trail has never been as easy or accessible.
There’s also several new convenience features included on the Trailhawk trim. The universal garage door, for instance, lets you configure most garage door opening systems to activate at the press of a button. Push button start and proximity key ensures that your keys stay safely tucked away in your pocket, from point A to B. The mirrors are heated and power folding, and the rear tailgate unfolds with a simple foot gesture. The climate control has been upgraded with premium air filters, a must-have in this era. And the steering wheel has integrated heated elements to keep your hands toasty in the winter. Hands free phone operation also becomes simpler, thanks to voice command operation.
Optional extras include an Alpine tuned 9 speaker setup, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, parking assist, and much more. The towing package bumps max towing capacity to a class-leading 4,500 pounds – enough to handle boats and small trailers.
Limited
In the Limited trim, the Cherokee’s metalwork is refined to create a classier ride outside and inside, while still retaining its patented off-road performance. Aggressive grey accents have been replaced with body coloured bumpers and chrome galore. Advanced safety features come standard this time, with adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and more. Nappa leather lines the seats, while the front passenger seat gains power controls. The steering wheel also benefits from controls for audio and cruise control over other Cherokee variants.
Optional extras include the aforementioned tow package, as well as ventilated front seats, an upgraded infotainment system, and available 18″ rims over the 17 inchers included on other trims. The full-fledged Limited is a step above other Cherokees into premium territory, while costing little more than the Trailhawk.
Summary
The Jeep Cherokee presents a compelling offer for the competitive compact SUV segment. 4WD handily beats out power delivery systems used in other crossovers, all while delivering high end technology and luxury finishes inside. Which trim would you go for?
