2023 Dodge Hornet Canada
Introduction
2023 Dodge Hornet Toronto,After a decade-long hiatus, Dodge has finally launched a new model for the North American market: the Hornet. This small SUV will compete against Jeep’s own Cherokee, as well as popular rivals including the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage. But will it win over Canadian consumers on the hunt for a family SUV? Keep reading below to learn more.
History
The Hornet name comes with an extensive backstory. First introduced in 1951, the Hudson Motor Company launched the Hornet as a full size luxury sedan. Produced until 1957, the Hornet quickly gained a reputation in Nascar circles for dominating stock car races.
After a series of mergers, the rights to the Hornet name made its way to Chrysler in 1987, and first put to use in the form of a concept SUV in 2006. This Hornet served as a template for the larger 2007 Dodge Nitro, but never launched as its own model.
The latest incarnation of the Hornet is actually an Alfa Romeo underneath. Alfa’s Tonale is the Italian marque’s latest entry level SUV, slotted above the Giulia sedan but under the Stelvio SUV. Both the Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale will be produced in Italy, on the same production line.
Powertrain
Canada will get three variants of the Hornet, starting below the Tonale’s MSRP at just under $40,000. The entry level R/T gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of 48 kilometers of battery-only driving, alongside a 1.3L engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. The GT variant, on the other hand, gets a 2.0L turbocharged engine mated to a 9-speed auto gearbox made by ZF. An upcoming GLH trim, short for Goes Like Hell, will bring more performance to the compact SUV market, but Dodge has been scant on details so far. All Hornets will come with four wheel drive, and beat out rivals in power-to-weight and total horsepower.
Features
The Hornet comes with all the technological goodies Stellantis cars come with. The Uconnect 5 infotainment system is included on all trims, and lets you pair your phone to run Android Auto or Apple Carplay wirelessly, use the built in navigation, issue voice commands courtesy of Alexa, and more on the massive 10.25″ display. Emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and more provide active and passive safety when on the road. The full list of features will come in due time, naturally.
Conclusion
Dodge has created a well packaged, sporty compact SUV that incorporates everything you’d expect to find in a family car. Loaded with the latest tech and safety features, this compelling package will challenge the existing SUV market once it hits the roads in Canada.
